The teacher Alessandra is a very sociable lady and she is a native speaker of Italian . She was born in Rome, but she has been living in Perugia for the last few years. She has an extensive experience in teaching Italian Language to foreigners both in Italy and abroad. She likes to make her students feel at ease, she also enjoys music, reading, travelling and cooking and speaks fluent English and Spanish.
In addition to her initial Degree in Foreign Languages Alessandra got a Master DITALS degree at the University for Foreigners in Siena, one of the highest qualification for teaching Italian to foreigners.
On account of her long term experience as an Italian teacher in Rome, Australia, Hong Kong and Spain, Alessandra has a strong sense for the needs of students and is committed to providing learning tailored to the individual’s capabilities and aims.
Her teaching philosophy has been to build a strong technical base through the presentation of Italian as a living language in an environment where students can build a deeper confidence in their own ability to progress.
Alessandra has been personal tutor to a number of foreign students such as Ambassadors – Australia, Canada and Israel – and their staff in Rome. She has also been co-founder, Director and senior teacher at the Dante Alighieri School in Hong Kong and a tutor of Italian for students at the LI PO CHUN College of Hong Kong.
Courses are for adult students. Lessons will be held in the morning and will include several aspect of the Language – reading, writing, comprehension, conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and Italian culture. At the beginning the teacher will test your language level so as to personalize the lessons and she will monitor your progress day-by-day.
Full immersion one to one, or for your own very small group; Teaching materials Drills at home Practical drills around the City together with the teacher. You can have intensive one-to-one teaching of 10-20 hours per week (from Monday to Friday) or just everyday spoken Italian. If you chose the half-board option then you will obviously benefit from casual conversation with your teacher during the meal.
You will be free to relax in the afternoon, go out and discover the beauty of the town, go hiking, wine and food tasting by yourself or with the teacher to help you.
These courses are for those who have a medium-advanced language level. You can improve your grammar, your vocabulary and your socio-cultural knowledge in a structured but enjoyable way. The course will be personalized according to your own areas of interest: Current events, Literature, History, Art. You will want to decide on your main course theme at least a month before the course starts.
THE REGION OF UMBRIA AND THE TOWN OF PERUGIA
Umbria is increasingly becoming a favorite destination with travellers who seek a real experience of Italy which combines nature, culture and history, architecture, great food, sports and a vast schedule of different events like ‘Umbria Jazz’ festival in July, Eurochocolate in October, Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, from the end of June to July, and many other events like Antique Fairs.
Umbria is known as the “Green Heart” of Italy not only because it is the geographical centre of Italy – and combines major mountain chains, wooded hills, lakes, rivers waterfalls and national parks – but also because nature is an integral part of its history, its towns, people and lifestyle.
The Region is also well known for its wines, olive oils, truffles and for its traditional and inventive cuisines.
From the ancient Etruscan remains to the Middle-Ages, from Renaissance to Baroque, every period produced masterpieces in Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region and right in the centre of it.
It is home to many museums, galleries, churches, towers, antique Villas, wine bars and restaurants. Perugina’s chocolate factory.
Perugia itself surrounded by hill-towns, Lake Trasimeno, parks and old castles. It offers a multitude of sporting and recreational opportunities, wine tasting and the possibility of 4X4 excursions to discover places that only few people know.
For golf lovers there are two Golf Courses, one at Santa Sabina and the other in Antognolla, water sports on Lake Trasimeno, nature walks, and a wide range of festivals.
Perugia is the ideal starting point for other centers in the area nearby, as well as the perfect base for reaching Todi, Orvieto (famous for the Saint Patrick’s Well); Siena, Arezzo and Cortona in nearby Tuscany, and also Rome which is 180 kms away and Florence which is 160 km.
The house is a restored farmhouse with all the comforts, including a big garden with a large pizza oven and a BBQ and is surrounded by land ideal for walks. The house is the ideal starting point for beautiful excursion to the nearby Assisi, Corciano, Trasimeno Lake, Montefalco, Spoleto, Spello and many other places.
FOR YOUR ACCOMODATION
Your bedroom with its own large en-suite bathroom (with shower) is on the ground floor of the house and has a big window facing the front garden.
In the morning you will have breakfast in the dining room or in the garden together with your teacher.
You will have lessons in the morning and, if you want, you could share lunch or dinner with your teacher, cooking with her while you practice your Italian.
HOW TO ARRIVE:
By Air: the Perugia International Airport is 20km from the house. It is connected by direct Ryanair flights from Stanstead
By Train: Perugia is easily connected by train including several direct trains each day from Rome and Florence.
By Car: Perugia is on the A1 plus E45 from Rome or Florence. More detailed directions will be provided once you book.
By Bus: There is a very convenient direct bus service (SULGA Line) from Rome (including direct from the airport at Fumicino) and Milan.
